Tinubu Addresses Petrol Subsidy Hardship with Transport Initiatives

President Bola Tinubu recognized that the removal of the petrol subsidy would lead to hardship for many Nigerian households. He stated that his administration is implementing measures to provide affordable transportation alternatives to mitigate this impact.
Tinubu announced the rollout of buses, electric vehicles, and compressed natural gas (CNG) transport initiatives in several states, including 15 buses in Ekiti State, 20 in Lagos, and 50 in Akwa Ibom. Additionally, Katsina State introduced 30 CNG hybrid buses and 200 electric tricycles, while Kano received 30 CNG buses and five electric buses.
The government is collaborating with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and private investors to expand the National Affordable CNG Transportation Programme. Tinubu mentioned that over 400 certified centers have converted more than 120,000 vehicles to CNG and that the government has waived over ₦3.3 trillion in fuel taxes and duties to alleviate rising petrol prices.
He emphasized the need for political leaders to explain the cost and sustainability of their campaign promises.
