Tinubu's Fuel Subsidy Removal: Economic Reform Praised

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former member representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, stated that President Bola Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidy was a significant economic reform that has repositioned Nigeria for sustainable growth. In a statement from Osogbo, Oyintiloye warned against political candidates distorting facts about the subsidy removal ahead of the 2027 elections.

He highlighted that the subsidy regime had placed a substantial financial burden on Nigeria, which could no longer afford to spend trillions of naira on petrol subsidies while facing fiscal pressures. He noted that the policy should be seen as a corrective measure for long-standing economic distortions.

Oyintiloye acknowledged the immediate hardships caused by the policy, such as increased transportation and living costs, but argued that reverting to the old system would only delay a crisis. He urged the government to focus on investments in critical sectors to ensure the benefits of subsidy removal are realized.
