Troost-Ekong Reflects on Super Eagles Career and Retirement

William Troost-Ekong, the former captain of the Super Eagles, admitted to missing life with the Nigerian national team during a roundtable discussion on the Bassey Talk podcast. Troost-Ekong, who is 32 years old, announced his retirement from international football will take place in December 2025.

He reflected on his decade-long service to Nigeria, which included significant achievements such as winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and an Olympic bronze medal. Troost-Ekong made his Super Eagles debut under late coach Stephen Keshi in June 2015 and became a key figure in Nigeria's defense, forming a notable partnership with Leon Balogun known as the "Oyibo Wall." He scored three goals during the 2023 AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire, where he was named the tournament's best player, despite Nigeria finishing as runners-up.

Troost-Ekong has earned 83 caps and scored eight goals for the national team, leaving behind a legacy as one of Nigeria's influential defenders.
