Kyari Responds to Arrest Warrant Amid Medical Treatment

Mele Kyari, the former chief executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), reacted to an arrest warrant issued against him by stating that he had notified the Senate Committee on Public Accounts about his inability to appear due to medical treatment abroad. In a letter dated May 11, 2026, he informed the committee of his situation and expressed his willingness to honor their invitation upon his return to Nigeria.

Kyari expressed shock at the issuance of the warrant, emphasizing that he had not received any subsequent summons from the committee. He reiterated his commitment to assist the Senate in its investigations into the financial records of NNPCL, which include matters related to an alleged 210 trillion naira.

Kyari's legal team assured the committee of his full cooperation and pledged that he would appear in person once his health permits.
