Former INEC Official Regrets Ten Years in Elections

Mike Igini, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), publicly expressed regret over his decade-long service in the electoral body. Igini described his experience as frustrating and painful, stating that he spent 30 years of his life, including ten years at INEC, striving for electoral integrity. He warned that proposed amendments to the Electoral Act could further endanger the presidential election process, as officials are already vulnerable and face threats to their lives.

Igini criticized the hypocrisy within Nigeria's political environment, asserting that the protection of the ballot should remain a national priority. He highlighted the serious risks faced by those attempting to conduct transparent elections, including threats of assassination, and stressed that citizens' votes should be respected and not manipulated.
