Adekunle Gold Reflects on Beyoncé Song Rejection

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold disclosed during an appearance on the One54 Podcast that he secretly wished Beyoncé would reject his song "Simile," which he wrote for her 2019 project "The Lion King: The Gift." Following the death of his father, Gold struggled to engage with music, stating, “I just lost interest.” Despite his initial excitement about the opportunity, he felt the song was too personal and hoped it would not be chosen. He submitted "Simile" late, and it was ultimately not selected, leading to his relief.

The song later featured on his sixth studio album "Fuji," released on October 3, 2025. Gold also addressed online misinformation, particularly regarding his daughter, and mentioned a legal victory against a user who spread a false death hoax about her, resulting in a prison sentence.

He emphasized the importance of protecting his daughter from public scrutiny while accepting criticism directed at himself.
