IBEDC Plans 200MW Boost by Reviving Hydro Plants

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), under the leadership of Chairman Tund Afolabi, is set to boost its electricity supply by reviving redundant hydro plants located in Oyo and Osun states. Afolabi disclosed that the company aims to explore embedded generation opportunities and plans to inject funds to rehabilitate these plants, targeting an additional 200 megawatts of electricity supply.

This announcement was made during a press briefing held at IBEDC's headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday. The company recently reconstituted its board of directors following the resignation of three nominees from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.

The new board includes Afolabi, Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi, Michael Magaji, and others. Afolabi emphasized that the transition would not result in job losses and highlighted the company's commitment to improving service delivery despite challenges such as energy theft and tariff constraints.
