Ibom Air Enforces NCAA's Power Bank Flight Ban

Ibom Air has implemented strict measures in line with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations regarding power banks on flights. The NCAA has banned the use of power banks exceeding 100 watt-hours in the cabin without prior airline approval.

Devices rated between 100 watt-hours and 160 watt-hours require airline approval for travel, while those exceeding 160 watt-hours are completely prohibited on aircraft. Passengers are mandated to store power banks within immediate reach during flights, either in seat pockets or under the seat, and are not allowed to place them in overhead compartments or checked baggage.

This enforcement is crucial for safety, as lithium-ion batteries can ignite and cause thermal runaway, leading to intense heat that is difficult to extinguish mid-air. The NCAA's directive aims to ensure rapid response to any potential fire incidents during flights.
