ICA Nigeria Hosts Conference on Global Communication Shifts

The International Communication Association (ICA) Nigeria chapter convened its first national conference from June 4-6, 2026, at Nile University in Abuja. The conference aimed to reflect on intellectual exchanges and strategic dialogues regarding global communication shifts, particularly in the context of Nigeria and Africa.

Dr. Timothy Onyejelem, a senior lecturer at the Federal University Otuoke, presented on the sub-theme of changing global trends in audiovisual content creation and its implications for Nigerian digital entrepreneurs, referred to as "digipreneurs." He highlighted Nigeria's vibrant creative industry, noting the surge of digital entrepreneurs leveraging technology for economic gain.

With over 100 million internet users, Nigeria is positioned as a significant player in the global creator economy. The conference also marked the election of new leadership for ICA Nigeria, with Dr.

Ekaet Georg from the University of Port Harcourt as the founding chair.
