ICPC Charges El-Rufai’s Doctor with Forging Medical Report

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed four counts against Prof. Bello Abubakar, a consultant oncologist at National Hospital Abuja, for allegedly forging a medical report to aid former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai's bail application.

The charges were filed in court on Friday amid ongoing investigations into multiple corruption allegations involving El-Rufai. The ICPC claims that Abubakar authored a document titled "Medical Report: Expert Opinion on Urgent Medical Intervention" dated June 10, 2026, knowing its contents were false.

The report was allegedly intended to mislead the court regarding El-Rufai's health needs. The ICPC also accuses Abubakar of abusing his position to issue the report for unfair advantage, conspiring with Aliyu Bala to fabricate false information, and producing a false document on official letterhead without authorization.

The hospital's Chief Medical Director, Prof. Raji Mahmud, is expected to testify that the report did not follow established procedures, and investigations reportedly found no evidence of El-Rufai being a registered patient during the period covered by the report.
