ICPC Charges El-Rufai’s Doctor with Forgery

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed four criminal charges against Bello Abubakar, an oncologist at National Hospital Abuja, for allegedly issuing a false medical report related to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai's bail application. The charges include forgery and abuse of office, with claims that Abubakar knowingly provided misleading information to influence judicial decisions regarding El-Rufai's health.

The report in question, dated June 10, 2026, purportedly suggested that El-Rufai required urgent medical intervention. ICPC asserts that the report was fabricated and lacked proper authorization from the hospital.

Dr. Raji Mahmud, the Chief Medical Director at National Hospital Abuja, is expected to testify that the hospital did not endorse the document.

The investigation revealed discrepancies in Abubakar's accounts regarding El-Rufai's treatment history, with the hospital stating there are no records of El-Rufai receiving treatment there prior to July 7, 2026.
