ICPC Investigates Ebonyi Lawmakers Over ₦2.2bn Projects

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced an investigation into lawmakers from Ebonyi State over ₦2.2 billion allocated for roads and constituency projects. This funding, reportedly from federal appropriations, covers projects across 13 local government areas, including Ebonyi Ohaukwu, Ezza North, and Ishielu.

The ICPC's team, including representatives from the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, has arrived in the state to monitor several project locations. They are inspecting newly constructed facilities, such as a laboratory at the Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences in Ezzamgbo, and assessing streetlight projects aimed at improving nighttime visibility in communities.

The commission emphasizes the need to confirm that public funds are properly utilized and that projects are completed to standard. Any contractors found to have executed projects improperly will be directed to return to the site and recover funds.
