El-Rufai Accuses ICPC of Being Ribadu's Personal Tool

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai accused the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) of becoming a personal tool for Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser. This remark followed allegations made by El-Rufai's media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, regarding an attempted arrest by security agents upon El-Rufai's arrival in Cairo.

El-Rufai declined to accompany the operation, stating he was not formally invited and that his passport was allegedly seized. He is scheduled to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2026, to discuss developments during an interview.

El-Rufai further accused Ribadu of directing security operations that involved the Department of State Services (DSS) and the ICPC, claiming that the DSS was involved in an abduction orchestrated by the ICPC. He clarified that the EFCC was not involved in the alleged attempt to detain him and noted that he would respond to an EFCC invitation through a separate letter delivered to the ICPC.
