ICPC Defends El-Rufai's Detention Amid International Appeal

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has responded to a campaign initiated by the El-Rufai Support Group Association (ERSGA), which seeks international support regarding the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The ICPC, represented by spokesperson John Odei, emphasized that El-Rufai's detention is lawful and not politically motivated, asserting that the commission operates strictly under anti-corruption laws applicable to all individuals, including high-profile political figures.

The ERSGA claims that El-Rufai is innocent and has raised concerns about procedural irregularities surrounding his detention, which began in mid-February. They plan to coordinate outreach efforts to draw international attention to his case, involving various pro-democracy institutions and multilateral organizations.

The ICPC firmly rejected allegations of political bias in its actions, maintaining that it adheres to legal protocols in its operations.
