ICPC Challenges El-Rufai's Bail Application in Court

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) filed a counter affidavit opposing the fresh bail application of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in an ongoing case at the Kaduna State High Court. During the hearing on Tuesday, El-Rufai's counsel informed the court that they were prepared to proceed with the bail application, but ICPC counsel Ibrahim Mukhtar requested time to study the new developments.

The court adjourned the matter until May 13, 2026. Previously, Justice D.H.

Khobo had granted bail to El-Rufai, but the defense did not file a further affidavit challenging the ICPC's counter affidavit, which raised new facts including allegations of flight risk and obstruction of law enforcement. The court emphasized that bail is discretionary and must serve the interest of justice, ultimately refusing the bail order and maintaining El-Rufai's custody pending trial.
