ICPC Acts Against Doctor for Alleged Fake Report on El-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has initiated action against Professor Bello Abubakar, an oncologist accused of providing a fake medical report for former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The ICPC has submitted a petition to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), requesting an investigation into Abubakar's alleged professional misconduct.

This petition, addressed to the Medical Practitioners Investigating Panel, is based on an affidavit dated July 7, 2026, filed in the High Court of Nasarawa State. The ICPC's complaint was acknowledged by the MDCN on July 8.

El-Rufai had used a medical report dated June 10, 2026, to support a bail application related to ongoing corruption cases. However, the National Hospital, where the report was supposedly issued, stated it could not find any medical records for El-Rufai and confirmed that the report was unauthorized.

The ICPC also noted that El-Rufai's examinations while in custody did not align with the report's diagnosis.
