ICPC Monitors 38 Projects in Borno and Yobe States

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is actively monitoring 38 projects in security risk areas of Borno and Yobe states. Linu Gubbi Matashi, a representative of the commission, disclosed that the initiative aims to ensure that allocated funds are properly utilized and that projects are not abandoned.

The ICPC's monitoring efforts focus on ensuring that the projects deliver specific value for money, particularly in regions where insecurity hinders project completion. The commission has referred cases of poorly executed or abandoned projects back to its headquarters for further action, involving state valuers and quantity surveyors.

Matashi explained that the commission will recover funds from contractors who fail to complete projects within the stipulated time. The ICPC also emphasized the lack of ownership and accountability from both the government and contractors regarding project execution, leading to community discontent.

The commission's project tracking team includes civil society organizations, journalists, and community representatives, and their reports will be made available at the ICPC headquarters for further action.
