ICYMI: NAFDAC raises the alarm over circulation of counterfeit Cowbell Milk

NAFDAC has issued a public alert warning Nigerians about the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell Milk 12g sachets in the country. The agency disclosed that Promasidor Nigeria Ltd stopped producing Cowbell Milk in September 2023, replacing it with Cowbell Creamy.

Consuming the counterfeit milk poses serious health hazards, including exposure to toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, and diluted ingredients, which may lead to foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, or even death. NAFDAC emphasized that infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable.

The agency noted that the counterfeit Cowbell Milk sachets have an old packaging design and printing method, making them easily distinguishable from the genuine product. NAFDAC urged its zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance to mop up the counterfeit products and advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to be vigilant to prevent the distribution and use of counterfeit milk.

Healthcare professionals and consumers were also encouraged to report any suspicions.
