Nigeria's Stability Key to West Africa's Peace, Says Idris

During a forum held at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of State for Nigeria, underscored the importance of Nigeria's stability for the peace and prosperity of the West African region. He stated that Nigeria has played a leading role in promoting peace and democratic governance over the past five decades.

Idris highlighted Nigeria's contributions, including peacekeeping missions and support for democratic transitions in the region. He rejected recent narratives suggesting that Nigeria is on the brink of collapse, asserting that the country is making steady progress in security and economic reforms.

The minister noted a significant allocation of N5.41 trillion in the 2026 budget for security, the highest for any sector, aimed at strengthening military capacity and intelligence coordination. He reassured international partners that Nigeria remains stable and operational, despite isolated security challenges, and urged balanced reporting on the country's situation.
