IED Blast Injures Soldier and NSCDC Operative in Imo

On March 18, 2023, an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion occurred in Orsu Local Government Area, Imo State, injuring a soldier from the 34 Artillery Brigade and a personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The incident took place at approximately 8:35 AM during a joint security operation aimed at dismantling suspected criminal hideouts believed to be associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network.

According to security sources, the explosion was triggered when personnel allegedly stepped on a concealed pressure activation device. Immediate first aid was administered to the injured operatives, who were subsequently evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.

Security operations in the area are ongoing, with intensified efforts to clear the site and restore normalcy.
