IED Explosion Disrupts Traffic on Zamfara Highway

On Wednesday, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded along the Gusau-Funtua highway in Zamfara State, damaging a trailer that was transporting cement to Unguwar Mai Chida. The explosion disrupted traffic but fortunately resulted in no casualties.

The driver, Dauda Adamu, was rescued unharmed. Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarab Maikaba, confirmed the incident and stated that a combined tactical team, including an explosive ordnance disposal unit, was deployed to the area.

Despite the attack, security forces successfully repelled an ambush and reopened the road for traffic. The ongoing security operations aim to alleviate the severe hardships faced by residents due to supply disruptions.

The Kucheri-Danjibga-Keta road had been inaccessible for months due to previous explosions. Eyewitness accounts described the explosion as extremely loud, causing panic among motorists who immediately parked at a safe distance until military personnel arrived to secure the area.
