IG Deploys DIGs for Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the deployment of Deputy Inspectors General of Police across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, effective June 15, 2026. This initiative aims to strengthen supervision, improve operational coordination, and enhance accountability within the police force.

The deployment is intended to bring leadership closer to the field and ensure that emerging threats receive prompt attention. Disu directed the Deputy Inspectors General to work closely with the Commissioners of Police to implement measures that will lead to significant operational results.

A key focus of this initiative is an immediate crackdown on vehicles operating without registered number plates, as these vehicles are often used in criminal activities. Disu emphasized that every vehicle on the road must display proper registration according to the law.

The crackdown is part of a broader strategy to address the exploitation of jurisdictional gaps by criminals, particularly in relation to kidnapping and terrorism.
