IG Orders Crackdown on Vehicles Without Number Plates

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, has issued an order to the Nigeria Police Force to intensify enforcement operations against vehicles operating without number plates.

This directive comes in response to a disturbing trend of individuals driving vehicles without visible registration numbers across Nigeria. Disu emphasized that this situation is unacceptable and poses serious implications for public safety and national security.

He stated that every vehicle on the road must display an approved registration number as mandated by law. Vehicles found without proper registration will be stopped and subjected to appropriate legal processes.

Despite the issuance of this order, there have been reports that police checkpoints have not been effectively enforcing this directive, particularly due to the influence of affluent individuals. The Inspector General's order aims to address the increasing number of vehicles driven without registration, which could potentially be linked to criminal activities.
