IG of Police Restructures Monitoring Unit, Appoints New Head

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the restructuring of the Police Monitoring Unit as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening discipline and improving operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force. This initiative was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

The restructuring is designed to refocus the unit on its core mandate of enhancing oversight across commands and streamlining its functions. The new framework will enable proactive monitoring and intelligence-driven inspections for real-time oversight of police personnel operations.

Aliyu Abubakar has been appointed as the new head of the restructured unit, transitioning from his previous role as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department in the Federal Capital Territory, River State. Abubakar is noted for his critical role in high-profile investigations and modernizing investigative techniques to strengthen operational effectiveness.
