IG Orders Rescue Operations After Oyo Attack

On May 15, 2026, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu visited Oyo State after a deadly attack and abduction incident in Oriir Local Government Area. Accompanied by Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi, Disu expressed deep concern and sympathized with the families of the victims.

During the visit, he met with Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga and other security stakeholders to receive operational briefs on ongoing rescue efforts. The Inspector General assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, alongside other security agencies, would intensify coordinated search and rescue operations to secure the safe return of abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Disu condemned the attack as cruel and unacceptable, emphasizing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protect schools and communities. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also disclosed that the administration is working with security agencies to clarify the situation and prevent future occurrences.
