IG Disu Urges New Police Officers to Combat Corruption

On March 6, 2023, during a decoration ceremony at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu cautioned newly promoted senior officers against corruption and abuse of office. He stressed that misconduct would not be tolerated and highlighted the need for a higher standard of leadership conduct.

Disu indicated that the newly promoted officers are now expected to lead by example, reflecting discipline and integrity while respecting the rule of law. He noted that lax supervision often leads to misconduct and emphasized the necessity for strong leadership to enforce standards and hold officers accountable for their actions.

Disu also called for a people-oriented police force that respects human rights and is responsive to the public. He announced a strategic leadership retreat scheduled to begin on March 24, 2026, aimed at transforming police leadership to modern standards.

Additionally, he confirmed the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors General to Deputy Inspector General, replacing the outgoing DIG, Kayode Egbetokun.
