IGP Disu Deploys DIGs to Combat Insecurity in Nigeria

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has announced the deployment of Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) to their respective geopolitical zones as part of efforts to address Nigeria's growing security challenges. This initiative, effective from June 15, 2026, is designed to strengthen operational oversight and enhance intelligence-led policing.

Disu emphasized that the deployment aims to improve coordination among security personnel to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. During a conference at the Peacekeeping Hall in Abuja, he stated that the initiative intends to bring senior leadership closer to the field, thereby improving operational effectiveness across the country.

Additionally, the IGP directed the establishment of cross-border patrols to prevent criminals from exploiting jurisdictional boundaries. He reassured families of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring their safe return, highlighting recent successful operations that resulted in the rescue of abducted individuals.
