IGP Olatunji Disu Directs Audit of Police Arms Nationwide

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has mandated all Commissioners of Police (CPs) to undertake a thorough audit of arms and ammunition within their respective commands. This directive aims to ensure transparency and proper documentation, with detailed reports to be forwarded to police headquarters within a stipulated timeframe.

The IGP emphasized that this audit is a critical measure to enhance readiness, prevent misuse, and ensure that assets entrusted to the police are properly accounted for and optimally deployed. He also reminded the CPs of their significant responsibilities and the need for direct communication with community leaders.

To foster trust and cooperation with the Nigerian populace, the IGP instructed that regular town hall engagements be held across state commands. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of retraining personnel with a focus on human rights standards and maintaining a fully operational police complaint response unit available 24/7 for citizens to report legitimate complaints regarding police conduct.
