IGP Disu Honors Police Officers for Sacrifices Made

Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police and the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, recently acknowledged the bravery of the Nigeria Police Force’s Special Intervention Squad, who, in collaboration with the military and the Department of State Services, rescued abducted Orire schoolchildren. During this event, he mourned the loss of an officer who died in the operation, reinforcing his commitment to honoring police officers who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.

Disu has previously attended the funeral prayers of fallen officers, such as in Zamfara State, to demonstrate that their sacrifices are recognized. He highlighted the need for a shift in the narrative surrounding fallen heroes in Nigeria, advocating for greater recognition of police officers who face dangers daily, similar to practices in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, where fallen officers are honored nationally.

The IGP also addressed the low morale within the Nigeria Police Force, noting the challenging conditions officers endure.
