IGP Disu Orders Dismissal of ASP Over Extrajudicial Killing

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved the dismissal and prosecution of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman following an extrajudicial killing incident. This decision comes after a review by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) regarding the killing of a suspect, Mene Ogidi, on April 26, 2026, in Effurun.

The FDC's investigation, alongside internal procedures, found that ASP Usman acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other extant regulations governing the use of firearms. The IGP confirmed that upon dismissal, ASP Usman will face criminal charges for unlawful homicide.

Disu emphasized the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards extrajudicial actions and abuse of power, stating that any officer who violates the principle of the right to life will face severe disciplinary and legal consequences. The IGP also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public of a transparent pursuit of justice.
