Police Condemn Fatal Shooting of Suspect in Delta State

The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the fatal shooting of suspect Mene Ogidi, which took place on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State. According to a statement from police spokesman Anthony Placid, the incident occurred when officers from the Effurun area command responded to credible information regarding Ogidi, who was apprehended as a member of a transport union attempting to carry a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

The police stated that efforts were made to keep Ogidi in custody, but the team leader, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman, discharged his firearm, leading to Ogidi's death, which is considered a violation of existing regulations. The leadership of the police has directed the immediate transfer of the officer involved to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he will face a disciplinary committee.

The Inspector General of Police extended condolences to Ogidi's family and assured that justice would be served according to the law, urging the public to remain calm as the legal process unfolds.
