IGP Olatunji Disu Restructures Police Monitoring Unit

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the Police Monitoring Unit as part of ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and strengthening internal oversight within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The restructuring is intended to address identified operational inefficiencies and to establish credible internal accountability mechanisms.

DCP Aliyu Abubakar has been appointed as the head of the restructured Police Monitoring Unit, overseeing its operations. Prior to this appointment, DCP Abubakar served in the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the FCT River State Police Command, where he played a critical role in high-profile investigations.

The IGP emphasized that the reforms are geared towards entrenching professionalism, discipline, and transparency within the force. The monitoring unit will play a central role in identifying operational lapses and enforcing standards to ensure accountability within the NPF.
