Civil Groups Demand IGP Investigate Osun Political Violence

Civil society groups, including the League of Peace Ambassadors, Humanity and Human Rights Advocates, and the Nigeria Peace and Security Advancement Network, have called on Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to conduct a comprehensive investigation into recent killings and political violence in Osun State. This appeal follows the murder of Olalekan Dauda Oyeyemi, also known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife.

The groups warned that failing to investigate could exacerbate insecurity in the state. They urged the police to look beyond the immediate circumstances of Oyeyemi's death and explore the broader networks allegedly involved in political violence, including those who financed or organized the attacks.

The Osun State Police Command has already begun investigating Oyeyemi's killing, while Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed security agencies to apprehend those responsible. The groups also called for a review of previous unresolved cases of political violence in the state and emphasized the importance of due process in determining guilt.
