IGP Deploys Police for Osun Governorship Election Security

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a fresh deployment of senior police officers to Osun State in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for August 15. Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ishyaku Mohammed, will oversee the Nigeria Police Force’s election-security operations in the state.

This deployment is part of a comprehensive security strategy to ensure the safety of voters, electoral materials, and officials during the election. The police will work in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

The deployment includes Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police across Osun State’s three senatorial districts. The police have warned against electoral offences such as ballot snatching and voter intimidation, promising immediate arrest and prosecution for violators.

Additionally, armed escorts and unauthorized personnel have been prohibited from polling units. This deployment follows an earlier assignment of CP Samuel Erale Etaifo as Commissioner of Police for election security in Osun State.
