IGP Disu Warns Against Illegal Arms in Benue State

On [date not specified], during a security stakeholders’ meeting at the old banquet hall of the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu issued a stern warning against the illegal bearing of arms. He stated that only the police are recognized to carry firearms and expressed the police's readiness to confront individuals possessing illegal arms.

Disu described the current insecurity in Benue as unacceptable, highlighting that the state, once known for its peace and hospitality, has been plagued by violence, including criminal gangs, kidnappers, and political interests. He condemned the cycle of attacks and retaliations, reiterating President Bola Tinubu’s directive that insecurity would no longer be tolerated.

Disu vowed to take decisive action against illegal firearms under Force Order 237. Governor Hyacinth Alia praised the IG's visit as timely and noted the adverse effects of attacks on communities, including loss of lives and disruption of farming activities, threatening national food security.
