IGP Launches 14-Day Operation Against Illegal Arms in Benue

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered a 14-day operation against illegal arms in Benue State, following directives from President Bola Tinubu to address insecurity in the region. During a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Makurdi, IGP Disu emphasized that only authorized security personnel are permitted to carry firearms and warned that individuals found with illegal weapons would face legal consequences.

The police have been instructed to take decisive action against armed criminals under Force Order 237. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Francis Iduh revealed that 14 major flashpoints have been identified for the operation, including Gbajimgba, Arufu, Agasha, Kwande, Agatu, Naka, Otukpo, Makurdi, and Apa.

The operation aims to flush out armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements while ensuring that law-abiding residents are not victimized. Iduh urged communities to provide credible intelligence to assist security agencies in apprehending offenders, assuring that the operation would be intelligence-driven and community-focused.
