Imo Stakeholders Urge Ihedioha, Amadi, Anyanwu for Senate

Stakeholders in Imo State have called on former Governor Emeka Ihedioha, technocrat Chima Amadi, and People Democratic Party chieftain Samuel Anyanwu to run for the Owerri Senate seat. This appeal was made by member Pius Nwokedi of the Owerri Mandate Group in a statement issued in Abuja.

The stakeholders unanimously believe that contesting for the Senate is not merely a legislative endeavor but a strategic step towards the 2027 governorship elections in Imo State. They argue that whoever secures the Senate mandate will gain significant momentum for a serious governorship challenge.

The outcome of the Owerri Senate election is expected to significantly influence the political balance in the state, particularly concerning the ruling party. The call has received backing from several pressure groups, including the Owerri Zonal Equity Movement and the Owerri Stakeholders Forum, emphasizing the need for strategic political calculations in the region.

Despite the pressure, none of the three have publicly declared their interest in the Senate race, although sources indicate ongoing consultations.
