Ijaw, Itsekiri Sign Power-Sharing Deal for Warri Constituency

The Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups have finalized a power-sharing agreement concerning the Warri Federal Constituency II, following a high-level meeting held on Friday at the National Security Adviser’s office in Abuja. This agreement was reached to address ongoing tensions related to the electoral ward delineation exercise in the Warri area.

The meeting included representatives from both ethnic groups and senior government officials, including Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, and Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Governor. The terms of the agreement stipulate that the Ijaw nation will occupy the seat for the first two consecutive terms, after which it will rotate to the Itsekiri nation for the next two terms.

This framework is designed to promote political inclusivity and ensure equitable representation among the major ethnic groups in the constituency. The agreement was endorsed by key stakeholders, including former Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro and various chiefs representing both ethnic groups, and is expected to significantly reduce tensions surrounding the electoral process.
