The fourth Ikogosi Marathon is set to take place with a record 13,722 registrations, marking a 109% increase from the 6,569 entries in 2025. The race, scheduled for Saturday at 7 a.m., will start at the Ilawe-Ekiti Roundabout and conclude at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort.
Founded in 2014 by Makinde Araoye, the marathon has evolved from 241 participants in its inaugural 10km race to 3,786 registrations in 2019. Araoye stated that the marathon aims to leverage sport for youth development, economic empowerment, tourism, and community growth.
The 2026 edition will feature elite male and female categories, with winners receiving ₦2.5 million, while leading athletes from Ekiti will earn ₦2 million each. The event is expected to boost local businesses and promote healthy living.
The MKD ARAOYE Foundation has funded the marathon since its inception, and Araoye is seeking support from corporate organizations to enhance its international profile by 2027.
