New Leadership Takes Charge of NFF and NPFL

Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme has been appointed as the interim General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after the resignation of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau as President and Dr Mohammed Sanusi as General Secretary, along with other Executive Committee members. The National Sports Commission endorsed Ikpeme, who was previously the Deputy General Secretary, while Dr Ademola Olajire takes over as interim Deputy General Secretary.

Concurrently, Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on the same day the new season commenced with a match between Shooting Stars and Inter Lagos FC at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan. Abdulrahaman, who holds a doctorate in sports administration, will oversee the NPFL following a directive for board members and executives to vacate their positions.

The NFF has suspended preparations for the Elective Congress initially set for September 27, pending comprehensive reforms in consultation with FIFA and CAF, as directed by President Bola Tinubu to address governance issues in Nigerian football.
