NFF Appoints Ikpeme as Interim General Secretary

Emmanuel Ikpeme has been appointed as the interim General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after the resignation of several key officials on Thursday, including NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi. The National Sports Commission (NSC) endorsed Ikpeme's appointment; he previously served as the NFF's Deputy General Secretary.

Ademola Olajire, who was the NFF’s Director of Media and Communications, has been appointed as the interim Deputy General Secretary. The resignations came amid intense pressure on Gusau following the Super Falcons' disappointing performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Cameroon.

Additionally, Nigeria's U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, failed to qualify for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after losing 4-1 to Burkina Faso in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final.
