LAWMA Cracks Down on Illegal Waste Dumping in Lagos Island

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched a crackdown on illegal waste dumping activities on Lagos Island. Mukaila Sanusi, the agency's Director of Public Affairs, announced the seizure of several waste carts and the arrest of individuals involved in early morning enforcement operations.

One individual, Muritala Suleiman from Zamfara State, was apprehended for dumping waste illegally at Tinubu Square. Dr.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, emphasized the importance of sustained enforcement activities to deter illegal dumping and protect public spaces. LAWMA's core mandate is to ensure a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment through effective waste management practices, including collection, transportation, treatment, recycling, and disposal.
