Tinubu Blames Atiku for Pension Liabilities in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu accused Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, of creating unpaid pension liabilities during his tenure as chairman of the National Council on Privatisation from 1999 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo. Tinubu stated that his administration is now working to clear the backlog of pension obligations that were left unresolved after the privatisation of over 100 government-owned enterprises, including Nigeria Airways and NITEL.

He emphasized that Nigerians are seeking economic stability and improved social welfare rather than excessive promises. During a meeting with stakeholders endorsing Vice President Kashim Shettima for renomination, Tinubu reflected on his experiences in the United States and stressed the importance of unity in addressing insecurity challenges in Nigeria.

His remarks come amid ongoing political exchanges regarding his civil forfeiture case in the United States, with Atiku's Special Adviser challenging the Presidency to provide evidence related to the case.
