Fashola Rules Out Presidential Ambitions, Focuses on Service

Babatunde Fashola, the former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works, stated in an interview on TVC that he is not interested in contesting for the presidency, expressing satisfaction with his current role at home. He dismissed suggestions of a presidential run, responding, “No,” and humorously remarked, “President of what?

I’m president at home.” Reflecting on his over two decades in public service, Fashola described his journey as an extraordinary privilege and expressed hope that it inspires future generations. He declined to comment on his preferred successor for the 2015 governorship election amid speculation about Kadri Hamzat and Olasupo Sasore.

Fashola confirmed his membership in the Lagos State Governance’s Advisory Council but distinguished between offering advice and interfering in government. He stressed the need to preserve public confidence in the judiciary and highlighted the importance of a vibrant opposition for democracy.

Additionally, he addressed Lagos’ flooding challenges, attributing them to the state’s geography and waste disposal issues, and called for cooperation between the government and residents.
