EFCC Clears Immigration CG Kemi Nandap of Fraud Claims

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, is not under investigation regarding allegations of visa fraud. This clarification was made by Dele Oyewale, the head of media and public relations at the EFCC, following media reports suggesting that Nandap was linked to an investigation into a visa racket.

The EFCC confirmed that while there are ongoing investigations into allegations of visa fraud involving the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nandap is not connected to these cases. The EFCC is currently pursuing a case in the Federal High Court against the immigration office related to alleged visa fraud, with investigations continuing that may lead to further prosecutions.

Allegations include the unlawful collection of fees for visa overstays instead of enforcing penalties as prescribed by Nigerian visa policy, which imposes fines of 15,000 Naira per day for foreign nationals remaining in the country after their visas expire.
