Immigration Service Urges New PROs to Counter Misinformation

Kemi Nanna Nandap, the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), addressed 73 newly inducted Public Relations Officers (PROs) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) during their induction ceremony at the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja. The CGI emphasized the importance of actively countering misinformation about the Service, highlighting the need for the officers to correct false narratives and protect the Service's image.

This induction followed their successful completion of the NIPR Training and Certification Programme. Nandap, represented by Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) Visa and Residency FU Nwanneka, stressed the necessity of effective crisis response and proactive public perception management in the digital age.

She noted that misinformation can quickly undermine public confidence. Dr.

Ike Neliaku, President of NIPR, formally inducted the officers, calling them critical stakeholders in national security communication and urging them to uphold ethics and professionalism. DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Service PRO, reiterated the CGI’s commitment to standardizing Public Relations within NIS.
