Ibadan APC Leaders Warn Against Candidate Imposition

On Wednesday, Ibadan APC leaders, spearheaded by Chief Wale Owu, expressed concerns regarding the potential imposition of candidates for the upcoming 2027 general elections. They urged the national leadership of the APC to adopt direct primaries for candidate selection to promote transparency and internal democracy within the party.

In a letter addressed to the APC national chairman during a stakeholders' meeting on April 7, 2026, Chief Owu highlighted that past experiences, particularly the defeats in the 2019 and 2023 elections, underscore the risks of candidate imposition. He emphasized that such practices could lead to internal divisions and weaken the party's chances in future elections.

The leaders called for adherence to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, advocating for candidates to emerge through either direct primaries or consensus, while warning that consensus should not be a guise for imposition. Lowo Obisesan, a member of the constituency, reiterated the need for a fair and guided process to secure victory for the APC.
