Improvised Device Explodes at Mushin Market; One Injured, Area Secured

An improvised explosive device detonated under a vehicle at Shoe Material Market in Mushin, Lagos, on Monday, leaving one person injured. The Lagos State Police Command, headed by Commissioner Fatai Tijani, responded swiftly to the incident, deploying explosive ordnance disposal and chemical-biological-radiological-nuclear units to the scene.

The injured individual is reported to be in stable condition. Tijani visited the explosion site and addressed journalists, confirming that preliminary investigations point to an IED planted beneath the passenger side of a vehicle.

The device detonated when the engine was started. Police cordoned off the commercial area immediately following the blast to prevent further danger and to allow specialists to conduct thorough assessments of the surroundings.

After a comprehensive search of the market vicinity, authorities found no additional explosive devices. The area was declared safe for residents and traders.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu issued a statement reaffirming the security forces' commitment to combating terrorism and pledging that law enforcement would continue operations against criminal elements. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu restated his administration's commitment to improving security across Lagos State in coordination with federal law enforcement.

The police command assured residents that the commercial district remains under full security operations, though investigations into the source and circumstances of the device remain ongoing.
