Concerns Over Acceptance of Nigeria's Ambassadors by Host Countries Due to Tinubu's Limited Tenure

Several countries, including India, are likely to reject Nigeria's newly nominated ambassadors due to concerns over the limited time remaining in President Bola Tinubu's tenure. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is facing challenges in securing formal consent from host countries for the accreditation of these ambassadors, as most nations insist on a minimum tenure of two years for diplomats. This issue has led to the silent rejection of Nigerian envoys in the past, with concerns raised about the efficiency and quality of the country's foreign service delivery.

President Bola Tinubu submitted the names of 35 ambassadorial nominees in batches, with the expectation that they would be deployed to strategic nations like China, India, UAE, Qatar, and various multilateral institutions. However, the bureaucratic process and delays in securing agreements have hindered the deployment of these ambassadors. The situation has raised fears of diplomatic isolation for Nigeria, with challenges attributed to delays in funding and currency fluctuations. Former ambassador Yusuf Tuggar highlighted the importance of timely ambassadorial nominations to avoid diplomatic mistakes.
