Indonesian Navy Ship Enhances Nigeria-Indonesia Defense Ties

On Wednesday, the Indonesian Navy ship KRI Canopu 936 visited Nigeria's Western Naval Command in Apapa, Lagos, to strengthen defense cooperation between Nigeria and Indonesia. The delegation was welcomed on behalf of Vice Admiral Idi Abba, Chief of Naval Staff, by Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha.

This visit reflects the growing relationship between the naval forces of both countries. The KRI Canopu, a 105-meter hydrographic oceanographic vessel, is equipped for deep-sea operations and possesses advanced capabilities, including remote-operated autonomous underwater vehicles for data gathering.

This technology is expected to benefit Nigeria, particularly in improving maritime domain awareness and advancing oceanographic research. The collaboration aims to enhance understanding and management of Nigeria's maritime environment, which contains valuable natural resources.

Additionally, the visit included discussions on maritime security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea and Southeast Asia, with an emphasis on sharing operational experiences to tackle piracy and enhance maritime surveillance.
